Fish is the gnosis, ma'rifa, of God, which reaches the heart through inspiration and which lives in the ocean of Divine Unity. This ocean is also in the gnostic's heart. It sometimes billows and casts the fish outside the sea toward the gnostics on the shore. By its taste, soul and heart find spiritual nourishment.
