Yes, the rosary is used much the same way in Islam as in Christianity, Buddhism and most other religions. Muslims use it for reciting litanies, remembering the Divine and sending peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
When I was in Jerusalem I saw a lot of Christian prayer beads being sold to tourists. They were quite beautifully crafted. Catholics and Orthodox Christians use them for religious purposes or decorative or as you informed me as bracelets.

we have similar ones with a small cross attached, people nowadays just like to wear them as bracelets...
