Barmhjertighed

A saint was walking once at night time in severe cold. In the dark he saw a kitten shivering in the cold. He took pity on the kitten and brought it home where it was warmed. After the saint died, Allah Ta'ala asked him:

What have you brought for me?

He ruminated: My deeds are not worthy of presentation, but by grace of Allah, I possess the treasure of Iman in which there could not have been any trait of ostentation (riya'). I should present this to Allah Ta'ala.

He then stated: I have brought Tawheed.

He was then reminded: Do you remember the night of the milk? The night when you drank milk and attributed the ensuing stomach-pain to the milk, saying that: the milk caused the pain. What! Is this Tawheed? You overlooked Me and attributed the act to the milk whereas I am the true Cause.

Upon this revelation, the saint trembled in fear. Allah Ta'ala exclaimed: You have now realized the reality of your claim? Now, l will forgive you because of an act which you never dreamt would be the medium of salvation. One night you took pity on a kitten shivering in the cold end gave it succour. You were merciful to My creature. It is a greater requirement that I be merciful to you. Go, you have been forgiven.

Hazrat Maseehullah Khan, Zikr-e-Ilahi

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, 'The Merciful-Blessed and Most High - shows mercy to those who are merciful to others. Be merciful to those on earth, and He in heaven shall be merciful to you.'

{Hadith Sahih Ahmad}

It is customary for the scholars that this is the very first hadith they teach. The hadith is fundamental to our essences.

Mercy to others leads to mercy from Allah.
No mercy to others leads to no mercy from Allah.

Mercy leads an individual to show goodness to others.

Allah named Himself al-Rahman, al-Rahim.

"My mercy has overcome my wrath."
{Hadith Qudsi}

The mercy of Allah has overcome everything.

Mercy was the fundamental nature of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

Ultimately no one knows Allah except Allah. Ultimately we know that Allah is infinite not someone we can perceive.

Showing mercy to every single aspect of creation.

"Whoever doesn't show mercy to the youth and the elder is not from us."
{Hadith Sharif}

The first 7 years of a child's life a man should his child play. The next 7 years he should discipline the child.
{Saying of Imam 'Ali}

The child needs the aspect of the disciplining father and the merciful mother.

The importance of mercy towards children: "Youth is a branch of the branches of insanity."
{Hadith Sharif}

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was merciful to people. He let Hassan and Hussain, may Allah be well-pleased with both of them, ride his back and played with them.

{Rahm} the womb comes from the word rahma.

One of the reasons the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, loved women was because he saw in them the divine attribute of al-Rahman {the Merciful, i.e. one of the attributes of Allah} manifested in them in their merciful character.

Mercifulness towards our brothers and sisters around the world. One shouldn't belittle other people's calamities. Belittling other people's calamities and situation, Allah might place you in that same situation.
